Lets start at the very beginning, some say a very good place to start.
DEFINITELY MAYBE

In my opinion this is the greatest debut album written by anyone, nobody writes songs like this any more, least of all Noel Gallagher. Rock and Roll star, Shaker Maker, Live Forever, Cigarettes and Alcohol, Supersonic, Slide away it pretty much defines 90's Rock and Roll. This album is totally raw and sounds as if the recording was paid for out of the Gallagher's giro cheque, but in my opinion it's that sound that makes this album the greatest ever selection of recorded music. The sound that announced the death of Grunge music and woke up British Rock and Roll from a couple of decades of electronic induced slumber, it gave you something to look forward to and made you feel glad to be young in the nineties. Oasis were a band to embrace, they sung songs we could relate to and feel a part of and for that period in our lives Oasis ruled the planet. Definitely Maybe still reminds me of endless nights sitting at the bus stop or down the old railway lines with my mates kicking a football about, drinking our first tins in our trackies, building bonfires, getting chased, getting caught and getting the odd kicking. MAGIC. The whole album emits a youthful confidence, taking you back to them days when you were felt you were invincible and that nothing could touch you. For me Definitely maybe is all about the guitars, massively overdriven, overlayered and overconfident every note seems to make you want put your arm around your mate and sing until your lungs start to ache. Noel's first handful songs are packed with lyrics are clad in a two fingered arrogance, rhyming Supersonic/Gin and Tonic, Girl called Elsa/ She's into alka seltza. This album is packed with a shed load of melodies, hooks and riffs that boys all over England spent hours trying to perfect. Its an album that got me in a headlock all those years ago and still hasn't let me go.

It's Only Rock n Roll
